ARCH PUDDINGTON is a political writer and democracy scholar and the author of three books. His recent books include Lane Kirkland: Champion of American Labor, Broadcasting Freedom: The Cold War Triumph of Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty, and Failed Utopias: Methods of Coercion in Communist Societies.

Puddington holds a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He served as Senior Vice President for Research at Freedom House, overseeing Freedom in the World and other research programs, and later became Senior Scholar Emeritus. His writing on international affairs, race relations, organized labor, and the Cold War has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, and Commentary.

When not writing, Puddington has worked as a newspaper reporter, with the A. Philip Randolph Institute, as executive director of the League for Industrial Democracy, and as a bureau manager at Radio Free Europe-Radio Liberty. That experience shapes his writing on the Cold War and organized labor.

Arch Puddington’s books are published by Trade Paper Press, an imprint of Turner Publishing.
