Charles Evers

CHARLES EVERS was an American civil rights activist, politician, businessman, and author. He is the author of Evers.

Evers was elected mayor of Fayette, Mississippi, in 1969, the first African American to hold that office in Mississippi since Reconstruction. That same year, the NAACP named him Man of the Year. He earned a B.S. degree from Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1950 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

When not writing, Evers devoted his life to civil rights advocacy. After the 1963 assassination of his brother, slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers, he returned to Mississippi and served as field director of the Mississippi NAACP.

Charles Evers was born on September 11, 1922, in Decatur, Mississippi, and died in 2020 at the age of 97.

Charles Evers’s books are published by Trade Paper Press, an imprint of Turner Publishing.
