CHARLES FREER ANDREWS was an Anglican priest, Christian missionary, educator, and social reformer, and the author of Sadhu Sundar Singh: A Personal Memoir and What I Owe to Christ.
Andrews was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge. He was a prominent activist for Indian independence and was named Deenabandhu, meaning "Friend of the Poor," for his contributions to the independence movement.
When not writing, Andrews worked alongside Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore as a close friend and colleague. Gandhi dubbed him "Christ’s Faithful Apostle" based on his initials, and Andrews was the only person permitted to call Gandhi by the nickname "Mohan."
Andrews was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England, on 12 February 1871, and died on 5 April 1940 in Calcutta.
Charles F. Andrews’s books are published by SkyLight Paths, an imprint of Turner Publishing.
