About the author
CHARLES WILHELM is a horse trainer with over four decades of experience and the creator of Ultimate Foundation Training, a system combining traditional, classical, and natural horsemanship techniques. His books include Starting Baby Jaz and Building Your Dream Horse: Charles Wilhelm’s Ultimate Foundation Training.
Wilhelm has been featured in Horse Illustrated and Horse & Rider Magazine, writes columns for equestrian publications, and has appeared on television. His training spans dressage, working cow horse, reining, and western pleasure, with particular focus on problem horses and colt starting.
When not writing, Wilhelm draws on study with John Lyons, classical dressage trainer Major Miguel Tavora, Olympic dressage medallist Steffen Peters, and western pleasure expert Richard Shrake. That breadth of influence underpins the cross-disciplinary approach at the heart of his work.
Charles lives in Aiken, South Carolina.
