Dermot Cole

DERMOT COLE is a journalist and historian with more than four decades of experience covering Alaska, and the author of several books on Alaska history, including North to the Future: The Alaska Story, 1959–2009, Fairbanks: A Gold Rush Town that Beat the Odds and Amazing Pipeline Stories.

Cole was named a Michigan Journalism Fellow at the University of Michigan in 1986–87. He spent decades as a staff columnist at the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner and also worked for the Associated Press in Seattle.

When he’s not writing, Cole draws on deep roots in the state, having moved to Alaska in 1974 after living in Pennsylvania, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Montana. That firsthand experience of the state underpins his work documenting Alaska’s history and communities.

Dermot lives in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Dermot Cole’s books are published by Turner Publishing.
