Don Blair

DON BLAIR is a photographer and correspondent who spent approximately six years documenting the U.S. Navy’s role in NASA spacecraft recovery, including being present aboard USS Hornet for the Apollo 11 recovery. His books include Splashdown!: NASA and the Navy, Portrait Photography and Body Parts.

Blair first boarded a recovery carrier, USS Wasp, in Boston in 1966, and many of his photographs from those years, previously unpublished, illustrate his books.

When not writing, Blair delivered lectures on space history aboard cruise ships. His photographs and firsthand accounts of recovery missions form the foundation of his work on the Navy’s role in the space program.

Don Blair’s books are published by Turner Publishing.
