George Alston

GEORGE G. ALSTON is a professional dog handler with over forty years of experience in purebred dogs and the author of The Winning Edge: Show Ring Secrets, co-written with Connie Vanacore, the first work to apply sports psychology to dog showing.

Alston won Best Junior Handler at the Westminster Kennel Club in 1954 and was elected to the Professional Handler Association Hall of Fame in 2012.

When he’s not writing, Alston lectures extensively to amateurs on the finer points of showing dogs. His book draws directly on that hands-on experience in the ring.

George lives in Maryland, where he established Field Stone Kennels.

George Alston’s books are published by Howell Book House, an imprint of Turner Publishing.
