George Menzel

GEORGE H. MENZEL flew 35 missions — 22 as bombardier and 13 as navigator — with the 401st Bomb Group of the U.S. Eighth Air Force during World War II, beginning in October 1944. He is the author of Portrait of a Flying Lady: The Stories of Those She Flew with in Battle.

Menzel held a law degree and built his main career as a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, stationed in Savannah, Georgia.

When not writing, Menzel drew on his investigative background alongside his wartime service with the 401st Bomb Group, both of which shaped Portrait of a Flying Lady, published in 1994.

George H. Menzel died on November 4, 2009, and was buried in Savannah, Georgia.

George Menzel’s books are published by Turner Publishing.
