Jacklyn E. Hungerland

JACKLYN E. HUNGERLAND was a psychologist and dog show judge who served in the U.S. Army, where she earned her PhD and completed an internship in psychology. She is the author of Miniature Pinscher: Reigning King of Toys.

Hungerford was the first woman elected to the Board of Directors of the American Kennel Club, serving eight years beginning in 1985. She held judging approval for Toys, Non-Sporting, Hounds, Retrievers, and Cocker Spaniels, and had judged obedience since 1960.

When not writing, Hungerland bred and exhibited several breeds, most notably Poodles, and founded and served as president of the Dog Fanciers' Fund, a charitable organization for dog fanciers. Her work as a breeder, exhibitor, and judge informed her writing on purebred dogs.

Hungerland died on January 23, 2008.

Jacklyn E. Hungerland’s books are published by Howell Book House, an imprint of Turner Publishing.
