Joanne Hatch Bruch

JOANNE HATCH BRUCH is the author of Unlocking the Golden Cage: An Intimate Biography of Hilde Bruch, M.D., a personal account of the pioneering psychiatrist and eating disorders researcher Hilde Bruch.

Bruch sorted through Hilde Bruch’s personal papers after the psychiatrist’s death in 1984, discovering the story that became the basis of the biography. She has also taught high school.

When she’s not writing, Bruch is a mother and grandmother, and is married to Herbert Bruch, Hilde’s nephew, whose guardianship Hilde assumed after his parents and sister were killed in the Holocaust.

Joanne lives in Devon, Pennsylvania, with Herbert.
