About the author
JOHN H. DAVIS was an American author who wrote on prominent American families and organized crime. His books include Jacqueline Bouvier: An Intimate Memoir, Mafia Dynasty and Mafia Kingfish.
Davis received a Fulbright scholarship following his service as a naval officer with the U.S. Sixth Fleet in Naples, Italy. He graduated from Princeton University in 1951 and also studied at Columbia University.
When not writing, Davis directed the American Studies Center in Naples and Tufts University’s Intercollegiate Center of Italian Studies, spending thirteen years in Italy. His books reflected that sustained engagement with American family dynasties, including the Bouviers, the Kennedys and the Guggenheims.
Davis was born in Manhattan, New York, and died there in 2012.
