Leonard Fein

LEONARD J. FEIN was a professor, writer, and social activist whose work centered on Jewish social themes. His books include Where Are We? The Inner Life of America’s Jews and Israel: Politics and People.

Fein held a Ph.D. in political science from Michigan State University and served as Professor of Politics and Social Policy and the Klutznick Professor of Contemporary Jewish Studies at Brandeis University. He also taught political science at MIT and was deputy director of the MIT/Harvard Joint Center for Urban Studies.

When not writing, Fein co-founded Moment magazine with Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel in 1975, serving as editor-in-chief for twelve years, and founded both MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger in 1985 and the National Jewish Coalition for Literacy. Much of his work reflected his decades of engagement with Jewish communal life and social causes.

Leonard Fein’s books are published by Jewish Lights, an imprint of Turner Publishing.
