About the authors
DEBRA M. ELDREDGE is a veterinarian and writer who practiced for more than twenty-five years at a small animal clinic and is the author of more than 20 books on pets, including the bestselling Dog Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook and Cat Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook.
Eldredge was the first recipient of the Gentle Doctor Award, given by clinical faculty for best patient care, and has won writing awards from both the Dog Writers Association of America and the Cat Writers' Association. She served as a past president of the Dog Writers Association of America.
Debra lives in Vernon, New York.
LIISA D. CARLSON is a veterinarian and a founding member of the Emergency Clinics of Southwest Missouri, and contributed extensively to earlier editions of Dog Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook.
Carlson received her veterinary medical degree from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and was a member of the Veterinary Honor Society Phi Zeta. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Southwestern Veterinary Medical Association.
Liisa is based in Springfield, Missouri.
DELBERT G. CARLSON was a veterinarian in Springfield, Missouri who founded Carlson Pet Hospital in 1960 and co-authored Dog Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook and Cat Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook.
Carlson practiced at Carlson Pet Hospital at 311 W. Sunshine Street for decades. He died in 1990.
JAMES M. GIFFIN was a physician who co-authored Dog Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook, Cat Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook, The Complete Great Pyrenees and Horse Owner’s Veterinary Handbook.
Giffin received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in 1961. While practicing surgery in Colorado, he was called to active military duty in Operation Desert Storm and subsequently retired as a lieutenant colonel.
