MAGDA GERBER was a Hungarian-born early childhood educator, co-founder of Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE), and the author of Dear Parent and Your Self-Confident Baby.
Gerber held a master’s degree in early childhood education from Budapest and studied linguistics at the Sorbonne in Paris. She taught early childhood development at UCLA and California State University, Northridge.
When not writing, Gerber advanced a philosophy of respectful infant care she termed "Educaring," coining the related title "Educarer" to describe its practitioners. Her work grew directly from her study under pediatric neurologist Dr. Thomas Forrest, with whom she co-founded RIE in Los Angeles in 1978, and from her earlier influence by pediatrician Dr. Emmi Pikler.
Gerber was born in Budapest on November 1, 1910, and died on April 27, 2007.
Magda Gerber’s books are published by Trade Paper Press, an imprint of Turner Publishing.
