Martin Cruz Smith

MARTIN CRUZ SMITH was an American novelist and screenwriter best known for his eleven-book series featuring Russian investigator Arkady Renko. His notable works include Nightwing, Rose and Stallion Gate.

Smith received the Mystery Writers of America’s Grand Master Award, Britain’s Golden Dagger Award, and won the Hammett Prize twice. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing from the University of Pennsylvania in 1964.

Before turning to fiction, Smith worked as a journalist. Much of his fiction drew on that background in reporting and research, most visibly in the Renko series, introduced with the 1981 international bestseller Gorky Park.
