Monica Furlong

MONICA FURLONG was a British author, journalist, and activist whose writing centred on religion, spirituality, and medieval women mystics. Her books include Zen Effects: The Life of Alan Watts, Wise Child, and Juniper, with a third children’s novel, Colman, published posthumously.

Furlong received honorary degrees from the General Theological Seminary in New York and Bristol University. She began her career in 1956 as a feature writer for Truth magazine, later serving as religious correspondent for The Spectator and writing for the Daily Mail.

When not writing, Furlong campaigned for the ordination of women in the Anglican Church. Much of her work explored faith, feminism, and the lives of figures including John Bunyan, Thomas Merton, and Thérèse of Lisieux.

Monica Furlong’s books are published by SkyLight Paths, an imprint of Turner Publishing.
