About the authors
CAROL ELLIS is co-author of Historic Photos of Mobile and Remembering Mobile, both published with Scotty E. Kirkland. Ellis earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from the University of South Alabama and served as Archivist there beginning in 2005, before being named director of the Doy Leale McCall Rare Book and Manuscript Library in 2010. She served on the executive boards of the Society of Alabama Archivists and the Gulf South Historical Association.
SCOTTY E. KIRKLAND is a historian and co-author of Historic Photos of Mobile and Remembering Mobile. Kirkland earned a bachelor’s degree from Troy State University Dothan in 2005 and a master’s degree in history from the University of South Alabama in 2009. He has held positions at the University of South Alabama Archives, the History Museum of Mobile, and the Alabama Department of Archives and History, where he serves as exhibits and publications coordinator. His articles have appeared in The Alabama Review, Alabama Heritage, Mobile Bay Magazine, the New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture, and the Encyclopedia of Alabama.
