About the author

STEPHEN BROOKES is the author of Through the Jungle of Death: A Boy’s Escape from Wartime Burma, a firsthand account of his family’s 3,000-mile flight from Burma to India during the Japanese invasion of 1942, which he experienced at age eleven.

Brookes was educated at La Martinière College in Lucknow, India.

When not writing, Brookes drew on a varied working life that took him across Asia: after the war he taught in Malaya, served as a soldier in the Indian Army, and worked in the oil fields in Borneo. These experiences inform the cross-cultural perspective at the heart of his memoir.

Stephen lives in Cambridgeshire, England.
