Sue Sternberg

SUE STERNBERG is a canine behavior expert and shelter dog specialist with more than four decades of experience in the field, beginning in 1981. Her books include Assessing Aggression Thresholds in Dogs, The Assess-A-Pet Manual, and Successful Dog Adoption.

Sternberg is the recipient of the APDT Lifetime Achievement Award (2016). Her work with shelter dogs was the subject of a 2004 HBO documentary, Shelter Dogs.

When she’s not writing, Sternberg founded Rondout Valley Animals for Adoption and served as Executive Director of the Community Animal Shelter Association (CASA), drawing on earlier roles as animal control officer, kennel technician, veterinary assistant, and behavior consultant at the ASPCA. That hands-on experience across shelter work informs her practical approach to dog behavior and training.

Sue lives in upstate New York.

Sue Sternberg’s books are published by Howell Book House, an imprint of Turner Publishing.
