About the author
DORIS SMELTZER is an educator, activist, and international speaker who co-founded Andrea’s Voice Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to eating disorder prevention and education, and contributed to the book Treatment of Eating Disorders: Bridging the Research-Practice Gap.
Smeltzer holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Meridian University and served as president of Andrea’s Voice Foundation from 2006 to 2023. She appeared in the 2007 documentary America the Beautiful and has presented at universities, organizations, and conferences internationally, including appearances before Congress.
When she’s not writing, Smeltzer draws on nearly 20 years as an educator to advocate for eating disorder awareness, a cause she took up following the death of her daughter Andrea in June 1999. Her work in this field earned her the Soroptimist Ruby Award for Women Helping Women and recognition as a Community Hero by her hometown of Napa.
Doris lives in Napa, California, with her husband Tom.
