About the author
WADE G. DUDLEY was a historian specializing in naval history and North Carolina history who taught in the History Department at East Carolina University until his death in 2020. He was the author of Splintering the Wooden Wall: The British Blockade of the United States, 1812–1815 and Drake: For God, Queen, and Plunder, as well as historic photo essays on North Carolina subjects.
Dudley earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from East Carolina University and his Ph.D. in military and naval history from the University of Alabama. He was raised in Sampson County, North Carolina. His book Splintering the Wooden Wall: The British Blockade of the United States, 1812–1815 received an award.
